Nampar Gyalwa

paint on textile
Western Nepal (Dolpo or Mustang?), ca. 17th-18th cent.
size: 81 x 57 cm.

Nampar Gyalwa is considered to be a special form of Tönpa Shenrab. Around him are four identical terrifying deities, with many heads and many arms, from whom Nampar Gyalwa emanates. They helped him to overcome the difficulties during the construction of The White-black Shimmering Temple, somewhere west of the magical place Olmo Lungring. Around are scenes from his life.
