two atlantes
painted and gilded wood
Central Tibet, 13th cent.
size each panel: 21 x 26 cm.
The style of these two panels is amazingly reminiscent to the famous (Nepalese) woodcarvings in the Lhasa Jokhang-temple, dating from the 7th-8th cent. (and later).
The green paint is of a much later date; the gilding and the paint on the clothing could be of the original date.
Tested C-14 CIRAM.
